Fort Gross – Friedrichsburg 1685, Ghana (Part of World Heritage Site)
Project for the repair of 17th century fort of international significance built by the Brandenburghers to protect their trade agreement in the area. Later used in the slave trade. The Fort is one of about 35 remaining forts in West Africa forming the Coastal Castles and Forts World Heritage Site. The work will be carried out in conjunction with the Ghana Museum and Monuments Board. Once repaired, it will be adapted to form part of a five-star Hotel and leisure complex, incorporating improvements to the East section of Princes Town. It will provide local employment and training both during and after development, as well as benefitting the country’s economy generally.
